Peter SmithPeter Smith Counselling
I am Peter, a BACP registered counsellor with an established private practice in Glastonbury where I see clients from my home. I also do telephone counselling and I’m currently training in online counselling which I will soon be offering to clients as well.
I have a special interest in working for MenCASA having suffered from domestic abuse myself in a relationship many years ago and experienced how the negative stereotypes can make it so much harder for male survivors to get sympathy or support. And it was partly through coming to terms with, and understanding, my own experiences that led to my training as a counsellor.
After an initial training in person-centred counselling I qualified to teach mindfulness groups and to practice mindfulness-based individual therapy at Bangor University. I’m also an experienced bereavement counsellor and supervisor which is useful when helping clients through the pain and grief of a broken relationship, and recently I qualified in the Rewind Technique, an effective and safe method for clearing away past traumas and phobias that can sometimes be triggered by talking therapies. I have just finished a post grad certificate in supervision and I am more or less continually in training, either learning new skills or updating old ones, to ensure that my practice remains effective and fresh.
If life is a learning curve, then counselling is about learning some of the most profound and personal lessons there are; lessons about identity, purpose, fulfilment and finding your happiness and meaning in life. These questions can only be answered through a personal journey of introspection and I see my role as being a trusty and experienced ally who can help in your search for answers.
My Biographical Info is fairly brief because I figured that a full professional CV may not interest you at this stage. You can learn more about me and my work via my website at http://www.petersmithcounselling.com and if you have any questions please feel free to contact me, either via the form below, or if you prefer, give me a quick call on 07506 809179 for an informal chat.
